The warm, fresh-baked, generously sized muffins at The Sentinel (almost) make me look forward to my in-office days. Those sweet delights are a small and highly valued reward that I promise to myself to make up for the pain of the commute. The Sentinel's a tiny, easy-to-miss, grab-and-go storefront with fast, friendly and efficient staff. I've only ever had their muffins, but, after the first one, have kept going back for more. If those baked goods are any indication of what the rest of the sandwich-centric menu tastes like, don't hesitate, just go.

The Deviled Egg sandwich is amazing, I go for easy mayo. The mint is a nice touch along with the fresh pickles!

Amazing sandwiches with fantastic service! Used to be one of my favorites when I worked at the old Yelp HQ on New Montgomery street They also do a wicked good breakfast with streusel coffee cake

Writing this as their coffee cake melts in my mouth. Wow I almost walked past this place without even noticing it. Located across the Palace hotel in SF this tiny spot has some of the best muffins & coffee cakes. I want to come back to try more! Their muffins are HUGE and freshly made. And the chunk of coffee cake they give you is massive. The food is great. Prices are reasonable. There's nowhere to sit it's more of a stand, but I ate as I walked. Staff is super friendly. Quick service. There was no line when I went. Great spot to grab & go. Will definitely be back!

I thought I'd stop and get a fried chicken sandwich but when I saw the lamb and eggplant sandwich listed first on the menu, my mind was changed. It was delicious and hefty. Also enjoyed the pickles and the Andes mint was a nice touch.

If you're on the go and looking for something quick but fulfilling, I would definitely recommend! From ordering to waiting for completion, it took roughly 5-7 mins. The shop itself isn't difficult to locate. It's on the corner of a building, next to House of Shields. It is just a window opening to order and pick up, so you aren't able to sit down and dine. They had about 9-10 sandwich options. I decided to go with the lamb and eggplant with chickpea and pesto! [I'm a sucker for anything lamb.] It came with a container of pickles as a side. The flavor... immaculate! The bread was so soft, but still solid considering it's contents... and the fact that I didn't eat it until 25 mins after picking it up. The specific one I got did get a little messy, so prepare yourself with a few napkins. I did wish that I could taste the eggplant more. I mostly tasted the lamb and chickpeas. Still delicious and worth a try! As for drinks, the lemonade was tasty! I don't remember seeing any other drink options on the menu, but I saw coffee lids and stuff on their counter? I honestly didn't pay that great of attention since I was most excited for the food!

Newly returning to the office and no longer familiar with what's in the area to grab lunch--I was recommended that tiny sandwich spot near my office. Literally looks like a little hole in the wall. Look for the House of Shields sign above it. I've walked past this place from across the street and never really noticed it. The was a short wait on my visit, but the line goes fast. If you want to avoid a wait, go early. It was a short and simple sandwich menu that's posted on the wall. I ordered the barbecue beef short rib sandwich with caramelized onions and it was packed with a generous amount of meat and served with pickles on the side. The sandwich was juicy so it was a little messy eating. It's a great sandwich & if you work in the area, worth checking out.

An independent, small sandwich shop that offers creative sandwiches with quality hand made ingredients. Both hot and cold options are available. Centrally located downtown off Market Street. Sandwich prices are generally a bit higher - around $12, but worth a splurge every now and then. If you work in SF or visit for the day, Matt says check this gem out.

The Sentinel is fun and serves sandwiches downtown to people downtown like office people and etceteras. The sandwiches are crispy chicken, deviled egg, pulled pork, and more. They have a list of 6-8 sandwiches in a day. They have breakfast and a lunch time. People walk by and pick it up. The old cigar sign is still hanging. It's near House of Shields. The Sentinel has sandwiches and it's cute. I got a chicken and I ate it at the museum nearby. It was foccacia.
